This poem relies on rather arbitrarily assembled elements (just like our minds work) and uses what the cognitive linguists call the parsimony principle. Therefore, in the absence of strong links, the reader must "connect the dots" (this is a pleasant activity that we humans are rather good at). Also, you have identified one of my favorite elements - the poem as a dictation. This is one of those principles I rather strongly believe in. Thanks for those great words, my sweet one!Russell Ragsdalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06530659064306025325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616976.post-63288970935770417502008-03-12T19:15:00.000-07:002008-03-12T19:15:00.000-07:00I like it, it's got my imagination on hyper mode a...I like it, it's got my imagination on hyper mode again. Makes me think of a writer in a cafe with a mini-recorder in hand, watching women pass by, observing their facial expressions and body language, and then translating these into words, whispering them directly on the recorder for future reference. ;) Heehee.S.L. I'm very used to using all that common stuff, metaphors and all those cute expressions that are practically clichéd before their first use. I tried to limit my images in this poem to those wordless types of experiences we have. They are tough to evoke in descriptive language. I Think Rae Armantrout does this a lot better but then, I'm just getting started with this. I’m glad you found out about this holliday.Russell Ragsdalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06530659064306025325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616976.post-32865208176850000892008-03-10T09:13:00.000-07:002008-03-10T09:13:00.000-07:00great tribute. i wrote one recently but it was fa...great tribute. i wrote one recently but it was far from being this lithe. and likewise to paisley, i had no idea of the day. now i know.ozymandiazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07891897071966903895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616976.post-85420435802117691872008-03-08T06:14:00.000-08:002008-03-08T06:14:00.000-08:00Hi Paisley! Here (in Kazakhstan) that is very true. So I hope you celebrated this day in the absolutely best way possible!Russell Ragsdalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06530659064306025325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8616976.post-17246962996001413432008-03-07T10:13:00.000-08:002008-03-07T10:13:00.000-08:00lovely poem in celebration of womans day... didn't...lovely poem in celebration of womans day... didn't know there was such a thing,, and i have been a woman for 47 years.... thanks!!paisleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08231453820728399262noreply@blogger.com
