Old Melody

The young at night
Drink and fight
And leave a lot of litter.

The old at dawn
Come along
To recycle empty bottles.

Pickers and leavers
Daylight grievers
Rest now your worn out waters

Tomorrow’s a song
We’ll sing along
No matter what happens
To our dreams and desires.

Some things never change.
I love the title too.

Thanks Nicole! Yeah, pardom me for being trite, but the more things change the more they stay the same. Glad you came by for a read and thanks for the kind comments!

love this bit it reads like a song

Thanks Sue, for your thoughtful and kind comments! True to the title, it basically is a song. Written in rhyme (I can hear Roger chuckling) it is a bit of a departure from what I usually do. Couldn't resist the inversion provided by the blank verse couplet at the end. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks a lot Gulnaz, for your wonderful comments! And I suppose we should be addressing you as "Auntie" Gulnaz; congratulations on you sister's new baby girl! Observations on innocence and hope; now there's a cause for poetry if there ever was one! Looking forward to your new verses.

Hi gama! Glad you came for a visit! Yeah, this is an old process (been through it myself). Thanks for the comment.

Hi my angel! Glad your feeling good (better) about the girl inside. Mondays are long days for me - I start teaching at 9 AM and finish at 9 PM. I'm afraid we still have another week of this term (and then we're off with summer sessions), so the congrats are a little early. Glad you are enjoying my blog! I float with your words!

Hi my angel! I can tell you've done some teaching. Holding the energy level up for each class is a real challenge on a long day like that. It's funny to see a bunch of teachers at the end of the day, filing in and out of the division office, practically whispering to one another or, just sitting in greatful silence.
