music for katy

that the sky was light
was an illusion
bent armed and bedraggled
behind the veil
where there are only confidants
and just a few of them
after all

secrets are told there
but secrets are hard to keep
he wears a smile
to hide his passion
it trickles through
disguised as a good natured jest
he wears a frown
hard as a soda can
rattling empty

the sky looms
an invisible spider web
in which we are trapped
it is the disfigurement of day
built of secret tons
of crumble and rust
the grand skyscraper of our civilization
over which the wet dark
giant wave of night
pours like a flood
and introspection starts too late

Thanks Ashraf! She told me she enjoyed reading the last one out loud. I hope she enjoys this one as much. Happy aniversary Katy and Ryan! And thanks Ashraf for that really great comment. Your visits are always a pleasure my friend.

One of your best, with far too many good lines to simply choose a few. Well done, Russell!

For some reason I always find a line in your poems that jump out at me. "he wears a frown
hard as a soda can
rattling empty", the sweetness gone, probably crumpled and color worn. Amazing how you turn darkness and light into words!!

Thanks Pat! I try to line them all up waiting for you, my friend. The lucky one this time is the a humble object which you can see so clearly. Your talented eye seems to know humble objects better than most poets could ever hope for. I'm glad to have written it but the truely amazing thing is how clearly you have been able to see it. Thanks for the geat comment, my friend.

I am but an echo here
Reflecting the words
of sentiments that
have passed here
before me

Bravo

I'm so glad you discovered it. My ashen heart leaps afire anew (wow, caesura too). May you find many read-alouds here and know that they are all for you - especially!
